so the girlface, who works at a computer store, decided she wanted to balance transfer one of her existing high interest cards to a card from her workplace, which would have like 0% apr forever etc. One of the incentives the store provides for getting a card through them is that if you spend a certain amount or buy particular items on the day you obtain the card, you get a bonus like $50 store credit, or so forth.
BUT, not currently having anything she wanted to buy, and as she wasn’t quite prepared to look up and purchase an entire new mobo/processor/etc just yet, yours truly took that bullet in stride and marched to the interface devices section and said, “Here! Purchase this!” thereby enabling her to get the credit for later when she finally does get her new system*.
now all I want to do today is sneak home early and doodle for hours. I’m so lame.

* and sure, it also got me a really goddamn nice new toy.

it should be noted the list is nowhere near complete. it was very important to have played many of the Megaman games, and it was formative to have played so goddamn many HOURS of street fighter games, and 3 different MMOs, nevermind the nights of Battlefield 1942, counterstrike, etc.
Alien v. Predator was also important, as was Command and Conquer.
I just thought 10 was a good start, having that many digits and all.

so this morning i sat down at work to type up an entry and imagine my surprise at not being able to see the servers at all.
turns out there was a DoS attack on the host and several IPs had been blocked to prevent propogation of the problem at the time.
it’s all fixed now though.
anyhow, in my time without hosting, I was thinking of what game series have been most important to my gaming life, and here’s the start of the official list:
01 Grand Theft Auto (series)
02 Tetris
03 Half Life (series)
04 Diablo (series)
05 The Sims (series)
06 Resident Evil (series)
07 Legend of Zelda (series)
08 Super Mario Bros. (series)
09 Quake (series)
10 Metroid (series)
I’ve also distracted myself a lot this morning with graphs and diagrams and formulae for MMOs.

so among the things I would like to spend money on, the most ridiculous and secret of my shameful desires is the PSP.
I have been a dyed-in-the-wool Nintendo fan since the first days of the NES. I touted the superiority of the Super NES’s color palette to my Genesis-owning friends, I celebrated each and every of Sega’s tiny disgraces. I pretended that the Virtual Boy was somethign that had accidentally slipped into our world from an alternate reality and not an actual product of Nintendo. I carry my GBA SP with me constantly.
But I just can’t support the Nintendo Dual Screen hand-held. It’s pretty, sure, and I always support innovations in control (i.e. the touchpad), but it’s got the shittiest launch selection since the Sega 32X, and at the top of its game, it’s a rehashed N64 mixed with a PDA. It’s been stated by Nintendo not to be a Game Boy replacement, and so I disregard it until it carries a substatial title selection.
But the PSP… it’s a downright sexy piece of machinery. It’s a digital hedonist’s dream. it’s a PS2 in your pocket, with a 4.3″ screen, it’ll play your music and movies. it’s USB, Wi-Fi, IR ready.
thankfully for my bank book, it’s first-generation hardware, so it’s got some defects, it’s got an exposed screen (I prefer clam-shell designs), and is disc-based, which means it’s a battery-power hog. all of these things combined with its pricetag save me from actually being on the cusp of purchasing one.
but goddamn, they come out with a few tactics games, bring its price down $75-$100, and figure out some of the design hitches, I’ll break down and buy it, I just know it.
I only hope Nintendo does some amazing stuff soon, or opens up their licensing to get a few more goddamn games for their systems, or this fanboi will be flying a different flag soon.

yeah, so I got sick of diaryland. it was a bit of frustration at the downtimes recently, the loss of certain functionalities and sense of community anyhow, nevermind the overall fuck-upedness of most of the half-assed implemented features. I figured “hey, even I can do half-assed recluse!” so here we are.
I decided to try a piece of open source php called wordpress for the moment. I’ll likely rip it all out when I get frustrated with it instead, but at least it will be mine to rip out.
I’ve archived all of the old diaryland content, there’s a link at the right.
