July 2005

Quite glad that it’s at last Friday. It has been a long, boring week at work.
The WHAX distribution of slax is pretty interesting, and I have been using it on my second machine at home, mostly to dick around with port scanning and to remote into my work machine. Worth playing around with, but I wouldn’t seriously use it for a home machine setup sorta thing. In the end, I’ll probably load it as a bootable image on a flash-drive, once i get one large enough for it.
The aspect I like least about these periods of playing around with Linux that I get, is where I get the urge to throw linux distros on every goddamn thing that has a processor.
I recently loaded up not one, not two, but three ancient laptops with various distros just because I could. This is largely inexcusable.

On the cover of my WIRED this month it says, “10 Years That Changed the World.”

GodDAMNit.

1. Do not watch 8 1/2 when you are in a fairly useless mood. Particularly if you are a male with no current direction.

2. Should you ignore the previous point, the resulting moodiness can be remedied with a bottle of wine, an episode of the Simpsons, and an evening in bed with the person of your choice.

GREAAAAAAAARGHGHGHGHGH

HALLO!

I lament that I have no revelations to provide, apart from things that don’t yet belong here.

Also, while I got the impression that I was supposed to be somewhat uplifted by the way Lost in Translation ended, I find it utterly crushing right now.

Today someone mentioned that their PDA was probably 50 times more powerful than their first computer, an old Mac SE.

I remember using those machines, so I had to look it up.

Those bastards had whopping 8 (yes, EIGHT) MHz processors.

Jesus, that’s an unfathomable number to me.
