September 2009

Oohh, it smells like autumn today.

Painting has slackened as of late, and I really need to get back on that particular horse. I know that my most recent palette is undoubtedly dead and I will have to start fresh with mixing to finish up my current pieces. It’s a minor speed bump but it does cause me some additional hesitation. Bleargh!

Strange dreams last night, some I cannot recall, and others that I will not write about here.

It has been a fairly uneventful week, with weather of the typical late summer Ohio variety: grey, misty, rainy. This morning the sky is clear and blue and perfect and riding into work was every bit as beautiful as it could be. The air was cool and crisp and it would’ve been perfectly acceptable to my brain to just ride right past work and spend the day riding through the hills and valleys of the area.

Random note: I’ve quite been enjoying 11:11 by Rodrigo y Gabriela lately. “Hanuman” in particular is great fun, as is “Santo Domingo” and many of the other tracks are enjoyable. Highly recommend it, I do.

The Moms revealed that if you’re not crazy then speaking to someone who isn’t there is termed apostrophe and is valid art.

This weekend I have a surprise birthday party to attend. The thin is, the invitation says the party starts at 6, and gives the address where the party is to take place, but how much of a surprise can it be when we’ll all have our vehicles prominently parked out front? Ah well, I guess the initial surprise will be pulling into the driveway. I’m not sure I’ve ever truly been a fan of the heart-attack-inducing variety of “lunge out at unsuspecting person” party anyhow.

And then of course, other things to look forward to this weekend: mowing the lawn, riding the vespa, gaming tonight, rest, Scribblenauts, Dawkins.

So good, so good.

Well, not really. I recently received a letter from the Red Cross saying that they noticed that my platelet count is extremely strong and would I mind very much, instead of giving whole blood next time, undergoing apheresis (more specifically, plateletpheresis).

Rawr! Superblood!* I might be a completely normal A+ donor, but woo platelets!

So yeah, now I’m thinking about centrifuges. Some more.

Okay, back to work.

* nevermind that high platelet count can be associated with any number of bad health conditions!

So yeah, it’s safe to say that I’ve generally been happy.

The weather lately has been stupidly nice. Cool, highs of mid 80s, and sunny. Excellent weather for commuting on the Vespa.

My quotidian life includes playing with cats, cooking and videogames. I recently more or less finished Batman: Arkham Asylum, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I was recently the victim of credit card fraud, a situation I have not yet fully come to an understanding with. I know these people are professional criminals, but I also know that I am generally not a moron with information security, and so I am utterly unsure how my card info got snatched. It’s disheartening. I also wonder exactly how companies like VISA deal with the insurance and how/when the matters are related to authorities. The situation was that much more alarming because the credit card in question was actually a check card, and it wiped out my checking account. Fortunately, my bank was extremely good about getting the credit made to my account, and we had no house payments or anything like that hit.

I really would like this pattern of late-summer fraud against me to stop. Two years in a row isn’t exactly a trend, but it still irritates me more than a little.
